Description of The Super Scrappy Scarf.
This easy Super Scrappy Scarf is made using up your left over yarn from your other projects. By using two strands of worsted weight yarn (aran) together you can use up lots of your odd bits of yarn left in your yarn stash. This technique also allows you to create unique and artistic colours to make up your feature colour block sections that act as gigantic stripes in your fun and funky super scarf. It is simple to make as it is just the half double crochet with every other row done into the back loop only.
If you are new to the back loop only stitch here is a video that shows crocheting into the back loop only. It is for the single crochet, but the principle is the same. The video shows you how to find the back loop.
If you don’t have a stash of left over yarn you can make this Easy Super Scrappy Scarf with new yarn purchased especially for this project.

Instructions:
The main feature of this scarf is created by using whatever yarn you pick from your stash. The scarf is created by crocheting stripes made up of colour block sections of 10 to 16 rows, depending on the yarn you have on hand. In my scarf the amount of rows in each colour block/stripe has been determined by the amount of yarn in my stash. I like the varied lengths of the blocks of colour and think it adds interest and style. It is a personal choice. You may prefer to have all the colour blocks made the same length.
There are several ways to created your colour blocks/stripes.
Use two different colours of worsted weight yarn worked together to create a two-tone look.
Use two strands of the same colour yarn worked together to provide a solid block.
Work with a variegated strand alongside a solid colour. This looks really interesting too.
Please note that the Ch 1 worked at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch
Chain 31
Row 1: HDC into the 2nd ch from the hook and hdc across. Turn. (30 hdc) Row 2: Ch1, HDCBLO in the first stitch and into each stitch across, turn. (30)
Row 3: Ch1, HDC into the first stitch and into each stitch across, turn. (30)
Row 4: Ch1, HDCBLO in the first stitch and into each stitch across, turn. (30)
Rows 3 and 4 form the pattern for the scarf. Just keep alternating the hdc row and the hdcblo row.
Work Row 3 and 4 changing colours every 10- 16 rows according to your stash amounts and personal preference.
If you have smaller amounts of yarn you can choose to make your stripes shorter.
I made my scarf 129 rows long.
Do you love a fringe.
I didn’t add a fringe to my scarf but it would look great with a long fringe made up of all the colours used in the scarf.
You can check out my Rainbow Fringe Bralette to see how I added the fringe to this fun top. The technique is the same for this scarf.
It can also be worn wrapped around the neck so it looks like a cowl.I hope you enjoy your beautiful new Super Scrappy Scarf.
