Hi everyone. I am so excited to share this new free crochet pattern with you. The Christmas Gift Card Holder crochet pattern makes up so fast and is also a great stash busting project. Make it in two contrasting colours for the striped look or using lots of your stash to create a rainbow one. You can use cotton or acrylic yarn for this pattern.
The Festive Christmas Gift Card Holder.
The Festive Christmas Gift Card Holder is a great way to package your surprise gift cards at Christmas. You can also add gift tags and hang them on the tree as a surprise for folks to find.
The card holder itself makes a great present as it can be used year round to keep your credit cards etc in one place in your purse or bag.
Description of my Festive Gift Card Holder:
This Festive Gift Card Holder is made with the granny stripe stitch with a twist. For this project I decided to go with half double crochet instead of double crochet when making the granny stripe stitch. This makes for a tighter and more delicate look to the holder. it is still super beginner friendly. It is made in the round so there are no seams to sew up.
There are so many colour combinations you can use that will give it a different feel and vibe. To keep with the Christmas Festive feel I used red and white, but green and white or any colour you associate with the holiday season would work perfectly. Gift Card Holders make a great gift and they are so quick and easy to whip up.
Don’t forget to pin it for later so you don’t lose it.
Design Inspiration for my Festive Christmas Gift Card Holder.
Lots of people opt for gift cards for giving throughout the holiday season. Usually these cards are popped into an envelope along with a Christmas card as a way of presenting them to a friend or family member. Often the cards get set down somewhere and can easily be misplaced during the chaos of the the festivities. Having a brightly coloured Christmas gift card holder makes it easier to spot and also you can hang it on the tree for safe keeping if you attach a yarn loop to it. I just think they are such a great idea to have something attractive to present the gift card in and also to make it easier to keep track of.
So I have been brainstorming different ideas fo what kind of a gift card holder I wanted to make and thought I would add this item to the festive design line up. This style of granny stripe design adds to my Festive Crochet Collection. You can also check out my Festive Skinny Scarf and my Festive Coffee Cup Cozy patterns.

Special Stitches for this Pattern.
FPhdc/BPhdc:
The ribbing at the top of the gift card holder is created with alternating fphdc and bphdc stitches.
Here are the written instructions for how to do the FPhdc or front post half double crochet.
Yarn over, insert hook from the front side of the work to back and then to front again, around the post of the indicated stitch on the previous row; yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through all three loops, (1 loop on hook).
And for the BPhdc or back post half double crochet.
Yarn over, insert hook from the back side of the work to front and to back again around the post of the indicated stitch on the previous row; yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through all three loops (1 loop on hook)
A tip to remember when working this type of ribbing.
When you work 1 front post half double crochet (FPhdc) around the post of the half double crochet in the row below, this stitch is raised on the surface of the fabric facing you. Always make sure that the post stitches are raised to the same side in each successive row.
This pattern uses US terminology. The US and UK crochet terms are different, but they use the same terms to describe different stitches. Here is a simple conversion chart for anyone in the UK.
