About The Granny Square Baby Blanket.

Hi everyone. I am so excited to share this new Baby Blanket free crochet pattern with you. This free crochet pattern for the Granny Square Baby Blanket is beginner friendly and you will be surprised how easy it is. I used a light weight (3) Yarn  for the ones in these pictures.
You can customize this blanket by adding rounds to make if bigger or using less rounds to make it smaller.
Also you could use a chunkier yarn and the appropriate hook to make a heavier blanket.

Description of my Granny Square Baby Blanket Free Crochet Pattern:

This Granny Square Baby Blanket pattern is simple to make. You can make it with your choice of light weight (3) yarn.
I chose Patons Astra for my baby blanket. I used three colours. White, Pink and Apricot/Peach
It is a beginner friendly pattern and with easy to follow instructions. It uses the double crochet stitch only and it is super easy.  You are also more than welcome to contact me with any questions you have about the instructions.

Free Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern

 

Introducing the “Granny Square Baby Blanket” Pattern by Carroway Crochet.
This Baby Blanket is simple to make. You can make it with your choice of light weight yarn, just look for the number (3) on the yarn label.
It is a beginner friendly pattern and with easy to follow instructions. It is made as a granny square.
 I have clearly written instructions for how to make a granny square here, but there are also videos on youtube to help you learn how to make a granny square if needed. You are also more than welcome to contact me with any questions you have about the instructions.

Free Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern

 

 
Supplies you will need:
Category 3 Light Weight Yarn in any color of your choosing. I used Patons Astra for my squares. I used three colours. White, Pink and Apricot/Peach
Colour A- Apricot/peach.
Colour B – White
Colour C- Pink
Hook:  H/5.00mm
Notions: Yarn Needle, Scissors.
 
 
 
Abbreviations (uses US conventions)
  • Ch = chain
  • st = stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = Double crochet
This pattern uses US terminology. The US and UK crochet terms are different, but they use the same terms to describe different stitches. Here is a simple conversion chart for anyone in the UK.

Size: 20”x 20”

Instructions:

  1. Start with a magic loop. Or if you prefer you can chain 4. Insert your hook into the first chain stitch and join with a slip stitch to create a small loop.
 Start with colour A
Round 1. Ch3, (this counts as the first dc st of your first cluster of 3dc. Make 2 more dc into the centre ring/loop. This completes the first cluster or shell, ch1, make 3 dc into the centre ring, (this is your second cluster, ch1, make 3dc into the centre ring, (this is your third cluster), ch1, make 3 dc into the centre ring, (this is your fourth cluster, ch1, Join with a sl st to the top of the first ch3.
Round 2: Ch 3, (this acts as the first dc of your new cluster), make 2 more dc into the same corner sp, (this is half of the first corner to be completed at the end of the round) Make 3dc, ch1, 3dc into the next corner sp, (this is the second corner), make 3dc, ch1, 3dc into the next corner space, (this is your third corner), make 3dc, ch1, 3dc into the next corner space, (this is your fourth corner) , we now complete the first corner, make 3dc, ch1 and join to the top of the first ch3 with a sl st.
Round 3: Ch 3, (this acts as the first dc of your new cluster), make 2 more dc into the same corner sp (this is half of the first corner to be completed at the end of the round.) Make 3dc into the sp from the previous row,( it is between two dc clusters,) 3dc, ch1, 3dc into the next corner sp,(this is the second corner), 3dc into the sp between the clusters from the previous row, make 3dc, ch1, 3dc into the next corner space,(this is your third corner) 3dc into the sp between the clusters from the previous row, make 3dc, ch1, 3dc into the next corner space,(this is your fourth corner), 3dc into the sp between the clusters the previous row , we now complete the first corner, make 3dc, ch1 and join to the top of the first ch3 with a sl st.
Round 4: Ch 3, (this acts as the first dc of your new cluster), make 2 more dc into the same corner sp, (this is half of the first corner to be completed at the end of the round), make 3dc into the sp from the previous row, (it is between two dc clusters,) make 3dc into the next space, make 3dc, ch1, 3dc into the next corner sp,(this is the second corner) 3dc into the sp from the previous row, 3dc into the next sp,  make 3dc, ch1, 3dc into the next corner space, (this is your third corner), 3dc into the sp from the previous row, 3dc into the next  sp,  make 3dc, ch1, 3dc into the next corner space, (this is your fourth corner) 3dc into the sp from the previous row, 3dc into the next sp, we now complete the first corner, make 3dc, ch1 and join to the top of the first ch3 with a sl st.
Change to Colour B
Round 5: Ch 3, (this acts as the first dc of your new cluster), make 2 more dc into the same corner sp, (this is half of the first corner to be completed at the end of the round) Make 3dc into the sp from the previous row, (it is between two dc clusters,)  make 3dc into the next space,  make 3dc into the next space, Make 3dc, ch3, 3dc into the next corner sp,(this is the second corner), 3dc into the sp from the previous row, 3dc into the next sp, 3dc into the next space, make 3dc, ch3, 3dc into the next corner space,(this is your third corner) 3dc into the sp from the previous row, 3dc into the next sp, make 3dc into the next space, make 3dc, ch1, 3dc into the next corner space, (this is your fourth corner) 3dc into the sp from the previous row , 3dc into the next sp, make 3dc into the next space, , we now complete the first corner, make 3dc, ch1 and join to the top of the first ch3 with a sl st.
Note: Carry on in this way, each side of the square will be increasing by one 3dc shell with each round.
Rounds 6-8: Continue with Colour B
 
Change to Colour C
Rounds 9-12: work the granny square rounds as before.
 
Change to Colour B
Rounds 13-16: work the granny square rounds as before.
 
Change to Colour A
Rounds 17-19: work the granny square rounds as before.
 
Change to Colour B
Round 20: work the granny square round as before.
 
Change to Colour C
Round 21: work the granny square round  as before.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
You can customize your blanket to make it bigger by adding more rounds. If you would like a smaller blanket then make less rounds.
