This Iced Coffee Cup Cozy is made with the simple half double crochet and the double crochet stitch so it is beginner friendly. It is made in the round so there are no seams to sew up.

Design Inspiration for my Iced Coffee Cup Cozy

The condensation issue was really what inspired me to create this quick and simple Iced Coffee crochet pattern. I am always searching for solutions to problems. I had already made a regular coffee cup cozy to keep your drink warm, and mug cozies as well as mason jar cozies. So this was just the natural progression.

The way theses cozies are created means that they act as a coaster as well as a hand protector. It is a simple design that really makes this cozy super useful. A cozy and a coaster in one.

All About the Yarn for the Iced Coffee Cup Cozy.

For this pattern for my Sunny Days Iced Coffee Cup Cozy I decided to use Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Solids yarn. It comes in lots of great colours and is super absorbant.

Bernat Handicrafter Cotton yarn is a natural, 100% USA grown cotton yarn. The perfect choice for your knit and crochet kitchen and home décor uses. It is a versatile worsted weight yarn, and I use it for lot of small projects like dishcloths and potholders, as well as for my face scrubbies and spa sets.   Conveniently machine washable and dryable for easy care.

Colourways:

Bernat Handicrafter Cotton yarn is available in a wide variety of shades, including neutrals, brights, and pastels. It is such a user friendly yarn and just great for making an Iced Coffee Cozy.

The Sunny Days Iced Coffee Cup Cozy

The Sunny Days Iced Coffee Cup Cozy is made with the simple half double crochet and the double crochet stitch so it is beginner friendly. There is one row of back loop single crochet, but I have the instructions below. It is for a large 16 oz plastic beverage cup.

There are so many colourways you can use to give your cozy a different feel and vibe.  Iced Coffee cup cozies are a great gift and they are so quick and easy to make. And they are very popular right now as we choose to drink icy summer beverages.  They make the perfect cup holders as the keep your hands and your table surface dry. They are a cozy and coaster all in one.

 

 

The Sunny Days Iced Coffee Cup Cozy

 

Supplies you will need:

Yarn:

worsted weight yarn (4) The cozy in the pictures is made with Bernat Handicrafter Cotton yarn.

You can use any worsted weight yarn. (4) Cotton is recommended as it absorbs the condensation effectively.

Hook: Size I/9 -5.5 mm
Notions:  Tapestry needle and scissors.

Gauge: 12 hdc – 10 hdc rows = 4” (10 cm)

Abbreviations (uses US conventions)

• Ch = chain
• Sl st = slip stitch
• st = stitch
• sc = single crochet
• dc – double crochet
• hdc = half double crochet
• blsc = back loop single crochet

 

Special Stitches Used:

BLSC or the Back Loop Single Crochet Stitch. To work the BLSC you insert your hook into the back loop of the next stitch and continue to complete the SC.

This pattern uses US terminology. The US and UK crochet terms are different, but they use the same terms to describe different stitches. Here is a simple conversion chart for anyone in the UK.

 

US Half Double Crochet (hdc) Back Loop Single Crochet=blsc Double Crochet (dc)

UK Half Treble crochet (htrc) Back Loop Double Crochet- bldc Treble Crochet (trc)

Size:

This pattern was designed for the large 16 oz (454 ml) plastic cup used for iced coffee, bubble tea and smoothies.

The finished iced coffee cup cozy when laid flat measures 7” (17.5 cm) tall and 4.5 “(11 cm) wide. This is so it will stretch and fit snugly when fitted on the beverage cup.

Instructions:

This cozy is created in the round.

The chain 2 and ch1 at the start of a new round does not count as a stitch.

 

Chain 4 and sl st into first ch to make a small circle, or begin with the magic loop if you prefer.

Round 1: Ch 2, Make 12 dc into the small circle space. Join with sl st to the top of the chain 2 (12 dc stitches)

Round 2: Ch 2, 2 Dc into the next stitch and make 2dc into every stitch around.  Join with sl st to the top of the chain 2. (24 dc sts)

Round 3: Ch 1, blsc into the next stitch and each stitch around, (24 blosc)

Round4: Ch 1, Hdc into the next stitch and every stitch around (24 hdc)

Place a stitch marker (this could be as simple as a piece of contrasting yarn, or a paper clip)

From now on you will be working hdc in a spiral and it will be a continuous round.

I made 14 rounds from the stitch marker.

Fasten off and weave in your ends.

You now have a beautiful and functional Sunny Days Iced Coffee Cup Cozy.
