Plant Cozy: Free Pattern
Plant Cozy: Free Pattern
Introducing the Striped Plant Cozy
Have you got some plants you love but the plastic pots they came in are less than beautiful. Now you can make yourself a quick and easy plant cozy using some simple crochet stitches and worsted weight yarn. You can use your favourite colours that go with your home décor. If you prefer not to have stripes, you can just make your plant cozy with a solid colour. It is made by holding two strands of yarn together as you go to create a stable cozy.
The important thing to note with this pattern is that it is made with two strands of yarn being held together, so you are creating a double thickness that makes the cozy sturdier. All you do is hold the tails of the two strands together as you create your slip stitch to start and work as if you only have a single strand, making sure you alway have both strands on the hook as you work.
I used the Half Double crochet stitch and an H, 5mm hook for this Striped Plant Cozy. Using the smaller hook with the double strand technique gives it the solid texture that is needed so the cozy stands up and holds its shape. These striped plant cozies would also be great for holding trinkets etc if you choose to use them as a basket.
You can make the Striped Plant Cozy Pattern with your choice of worsted weight yarn, either acrylic or cotton, just look for the number (4) on the yarn label.

Inspiration for The Striped Plant Cozy Free Pattern
The inspiration for my Striped Plant Cozy Free pattern was the need to disguise the ugly plastic pots that the succulents I bought came in from the garden centre. I went with spring and summery colours to lift the mood in the room. I love pink and grey together, so decided to use a striped design.
I wanted this to be a beginner friendly pattern that also had a great solid texture and added style by using some simple stripes.

Instructions:
NOTE:
The Striped Plant Cozy is created in the round. You will not be turning your work.
The chain at the start of a new round does not count as a stitch.
You will be holding two strands of yarn together as you make this cozy. This creates a sturdy cozy that holds its shape nicely when you place your pot inside it.
Let’s begin:
With two strands of your yarn and a 5 mm hook, Chain 4 and sl st into the first stitch to make a small circle. You may also begin with the magic loop if you prefer. Magic loops ensure a tighter closing.
