Introducing the “Daisy Square Bag” Free Pattern by Carroway Crochet.
This boho inspired bag is perfect for summer days on the beach and for magical festival experiences. Feel the hippy vibe with the beautiful Daisy Granny Squares that make up this gorgeous bag.
This bag is perfect for carrying your phone and sunglasses, your suntan lotion and other accessories.
The Daisy Square Bag is so handy for short or long shopping trips as it will accommodate your wallet and all your cards. You can make it with your choice of worsted weight yarn, either acrylic or cotton, just look for the number (4) on the yarn label.
The daisy square pattern is one you can use for many things, in fact I first created this square for a blanket Crochet along.
I decided to make my bag with with worsted weight (4) yarn, or Aran in the UK, I felt this was the perfect yarn for this bag as it helps it hold its shape.
I chose soft colours and colours from nature for this Daisy Square Bag and I love how they turned out.

About the Daisy Square Pattern.
The Daisy Square is made from the middle out, starting with a small loop or the magic circle.
The daisy petals are made using a (4) worsted weight yarn in the US and Canada or Aran yarn in the UK. I have used an H hook, (5mm).
The petals are created using the 3 Treble crochet cluster.
This square uses four colours and I love how the borders add interest to the beautiful daisy sitting in the middle. I hope you enjoy this pattern.
Check out my video showing you How To Make A Daisy Square Bag.
It is a beginner crochet pattern, with easy to follow instructions. It is in US terms.
Supplies you will need:
Yarn: Any worsted weight (4) yarn. I have used Red Heart Super Saver Yarn and Loops and Threads Impeccable Yarn for the one in the pictures shown here. You will need four colours to make your bag. It is a great pattern to use up your stash.
Hook: Size H/8 -5mm Notions: Scissors, tapestry needle, a button of your choice
Gauge: not important for this project
Abbreviations (uses US conventions)
Ch = chain
st = stitch
dc = Double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
tr = treble crochet
yo = yarn over
sl st = slip stitch
This pattern uses US terminology. The US and UK crochet terms are different, but they use the same terms to describe different stitches. Here is a simple conversion chart for anyone in the UK.
3 Treble or triple Crochet Cluster: This is for the petals of the daisy. Yo twice, insert hook in next stitch, yo, pull through st, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook (yo twice, insert hook in same st, yo, pull through st, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook), (yo twice, insert hook in same st, yo, pull through st, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook yo, pull through all 4 loops on hook.
The square is made with four colours, I will call them Colour A, Colour B, Colour C and Colour D.
Start with Colour A (I used mustard)
Chain 4 and join to the first ch with a sl st to make a small ring. Or make a magic ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 and make 11 tr in the ring, join to top of ch3 with a sl st, (12 Tr crochets)
Change to Colour B (I used white)
Round 2 is made with 3 treble crochet clusters as seen in the instructions above, however the first cluster is slightly different as it begins with the ch4 at the start of the round. It consists of the ch4, (which acts as the first tr of the cluster, and then two more tr cluster stitches are added), I have written up the steps of this first cluster below, and then you carry on with the regular 3 treble clusters as described above.
Attach yarn to any stitch in the circle you have created.
Round 2: Ch4, Yo twice, insert hook in base of ch4, yo, pull through st, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, (yo twice, insert hook in same st at the base of the ch4, yo, pull through st, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook), yo, pull through all 3 loops on hook, (This is your first petal.)
Now you will be making regular 3 treble crochet clusters as described in the Special Stitches for this Pattern instructions above *ch 2, make a 3tr cluster in the next st* Repeat between * and * ten more times. You will have twelve 3 treble cluster petals with ch2s in between each cluster. Join with a sl st to the top of the first cluster. Finish off.
Change to Colour C. (I used sage green)
Attach yarn in any space between two petals.
Round 3: Ch 3, 2tr into the same st, *make 3dc in the space between clusters, make 3 dc in next space between clusters, make 3tr, ch2, 3tr in the next space between the clusters*, repeat between * and * two more times, make 3dc in the space between clusters, make 3 dc in next space between clusters, make 3 tr into the final space, (where the ch3, 2tr was made at the beginning of this round, ch2 and join with a sl st to the top of the ch3.
Round 4: Ch2, 1dc into the same ch2 space of the previous corner, *dc into the first and every stitch across to the next corner, 2dc, ch2, 2dc into the ch2 space* Repeat between the * and * twice, dc into the first and every stitch across to the last corner, 2dc in the ch2 space, ch2 and join to the top of the ch2 with a sl st.
Change to Colour A (Mustard).
Attach yarn to any corner ch2 space.
Round 5: Ch2, 1dc into the same ch2 space of the previous corner, *dc into the first and every stitch across to the next corner, 2dc, ch2, 2dc into the ch2 space* Repeat between the * and * twice, dc into the first and every stitch across to the last corner, 2dc in the ch2 space, ch2 and join to the top of the ch2 with a sl st.
Change to Colour D. (I used Chocolate Brown)
Attach yarn to any corner ch2 space
Round 6: Ch2, 1dc into the same ch2 space of the previous corner, *dc into the first and every stitch across to the next corner, 2dc, ch2, 2dc into the ch2 space* Repeat between the * and * twice, dc into the first and every stitch across to the last corner, 2dc in the ch2 space, ch2 and join to the top of the ch2 with a sl st.
Round 7: Ch2, 1dc into the same ch2 space of the previous corner, *dc into the first and every stitch across to the next corner, 2dc, ch2, 2dc into the ch2 space* Repeat between the * and * twice, dc into the first and every stitch across to the last corner, 2dc in the ch2 space, ch2 and join to the top of the ch2 with a sl st.
Round 8: Ch1, 1hdc into the same ch2 space of the previous corner, *hdc into the first and every stitch across to the next corner, 2hdc, ch2, 2hdc into the ch2 space* Repeat between the * and * twice, hdc into the first and every stitch across to the last corner, 2hdc in the ch2 space, ch2 and join to the top of the ch1 with a sl st.
Finish off and weave in all the ends.
Construction:
Place the squares, one on top of the other, with the right sides facing out.

Attaching the Strap.
Open the top of the bag where the side seams are and centre the strap on the side seam on the inside of the bag. Pin it in place. Have approximately 1-1.5” of the strap extending down inside the bag over the side seam. Stitch the end of the strap to the inside of the bag, sewing each side and the ends securely in place. See the picture below.
The picture below shows how it looks from the right side. See how the side seam lies in the middle of the strap.
And now you can hang up your beautiful Daisy Square Bag.
