Blanket Square Pattern: Waffle Stitch Square
I was invited to design two blanket square patterns for The Friendship Blanket CAL.
This is something that Helen from Sunflower Cottage Crochet dreamed up.
Why call it the Friendship Blanket?
Simply because it is created from designs by many designer friends! Every week Sunflower Cottage Crochet will release 3 blanket square patterns for you to make. They will all measure 9″ (once finished and blocked if necessary) and in total there are 40 squares … yes, I did say 40! You only need 35 to make the afghan but we thought it was a good idea to include a few extras for those who
I am so excited to share my Waffle Stitch Blanket Square Pattern as a part of the Friendship Blanket CAL
About the Waffle Stitch Blanket Square Pattern.
This blanket square pattern is made using the waffle stitch.
There are video tutorials for the Waffle Stitch on YouTube. I was hoping to have my own video tutorial available, but unfortunately I broke my wrist badly and I am only just being able to crochet a few stitches at a time as of today.
Check out my latest Video on How to Crochet a Simple Beanie.
If you prefer to have the blanket square pattern in front of you instead of on the screen you can get the ad free pdf .

The Waffle Stitch Square was created for the Friendship Blanket CAL by Sunflower Cottage Crochet.
It is a beginner friendly pattern and with easy to follow instructions. Once you have mastered the waffle stitch you are good to go. You will only use the waffle stitch to make this super textured square. I just love the depth of the texture that this stitch gives you.
The instructions for the Waffle stitch are here for you, but there are also videos on youtube to help you learn the waffle stitch if needed.
You are also more than welcome to contact me with any questions you have about the instructions.

The Waffle Stitch
Here are the written instructions for how to do the basic Waffle Stitch.
This stitch uses multiples of 3, then add 4 more chains.
The Waffle stitch is made by using a series of double crochet stitches and front post double crochet stitches. These stitches are repeated in the multiples of three mentioned above.

Row 3: Dc in the very first stitch. FPDC in the next stitch (in the previous row). * DC in the next stitch. FPDC in each of the next two stitches. (from the previous row)* Repeat between * and * until the last three stitches. Double crochet in the third to last stitch, FPDC in the second to last stitch, and double crochet in the final stitch. Ch 2 and turn.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have as many rows you wish. You will see the waffles start to appear.
Always finish with row 2
