Chunky Beanie Crochet Pattern
Introducing my Chunky Crochet Pattern. The Chunky Beanie is a super bulky beanie and it is so easy to make, it is the perfect beginner crochet project.
I hope you enjoy making it as much as I do. There are two versions, a short one where the pom pom sits on the top of your head and the longer version where there is a slouchy top.
I wanted to make this cool design as a simple pattern for beginners. You can make this super trendy chunky beanie with only two beginner crochet stitches.
This pattern also works as a slouchy beanie for children.

Hi everyone. I am so excited to share my Chunky Beanie crochet pattern with you. The Chunky Beanie makes up so fast and it is the perfect project for selling at craft fairs or in your online shop. Make it in any of the amazing colours found in the Lions Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick yarns. The Mustard and Pumpkin are super trendy right now, but the neutrals, such as oatmeal and fisherman (ivory) are also very popular.
There is an inexpensive PDF download option available over at My Etsy Shop if you prefer a printed pattern.
It is also available as a pdf in my Ravelry Shop.
Where do you like your pom pom to sit on your head?
Everyone has their own preference for how they want the pom pom to sit on their head. Some just love the slouchy look with the pom pom dropping down a little. Others just love to have the pom pom perched on top of their head.
To please all the customers coming to my stall at the Mayne Island Farmer’s Market, I came up with two Chunky Beanies. Both are made with the same cool stitches and design, but one is shorter so it fits closely on the head, while the other is longer and has the perfect slouch to it.
This Chunky Beanie free pattern has both versions included in it.
Here you can see the slouchy version.
Description of the Chunky Beanie Free Pattern.
The Chunky Beanie crochet pattern is a top down beanie. You start with a loop and work downwards. The body of the beanie is made up of double crochet stitches worked on a huge crochet hook, so it has this great cozy texture. The brim is made with single crochet stitches worked into the back loop only, and this is all explained in the written instructions, plus there is also a video tutorial for this beanie, both left and right handed versions. Just scroll down to find the video tutorials.
The thing that knocks this beanie out of the park is the addition of a luxurious faux fur pom pom. I get mine from small businesses I find on instagram, but you can also get them from Michaels.
Don’t forget to pin it for later so you don’t lose it.
The great thing about this design is that you can make it super slouchy if you like by adding extra rows before you do the trim.
I love the wooden tags with Carroway on them that I attach to my beanies for when I sell them at the market. Customers really love this special attention to detail.
Here are the video tutorials on how to make the Chunky Beanie.
All About the Yarn.
I always use Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick whenever I make up my Chunky Beanie crochet pattern. I tried using a substitute but it never had the luxurious, cozy appeal. I think it is the fact that this yarn is 20% wool and 80% acrylic, so it has a softness and springiness that is hard to duplicate with other yarns. You can however substitute any super bulky weight yarn you have available to make these beanies, but they might have a different feel and vibe.
I have used Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick on other crochet patterns here on my blog, including the Short and Chunky Fingerless Gloves and my Warmest Feet Ever Slipper Socks.
Colourways:
Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick yarn is available in a wide variety of shades, including neutrals, and lovely earth tones and pinks etc. It is such a user friendly yarn and just great for making these crochet beanies.
Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick is a super bulky weight yarn with a number 6 on the label.

PIN ME FOR LATER
This Chunky Beanie is made with the colourway Celebration, and is very special as it has a fine golden metallic thread running through it.
