Description of the Velvet Twist Headband Crochet Pattern.
The Velvet Twist Headband crochet pattern is a for a headband that is crocheted flat and then sewn together in a special way to create the magical twist. You start with a chain that goes around your head, (this can be customized to fit) and work your rows of back loop only half double crochet. Once you fasten off you sew the ends together using the special twist technique. I have lots of pictures showing you how to do that.

I wanted to make this modern twisted design as it is simple pattern for beginners and looks so stylish when it is finished. I have included pictures to show you how to fold the ends to create the twist in the headband. I chose to create a ribbed headband using the back loop only technique with the half double crochet. Using a ribbed style in this pattern creates such a wonderful texture.

Back Loop Only BLO
This headband is created using the half double crochet back loop only stitch. (hdcblo). This gives it the interesting soft ribbed texture.
When you see blo after hdc it is to indicate that you do the specified stitch into the back loop only of the previous stitch. I have a video on how to find the back loop on my youtube channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQhzE70Ov-U&t=85s /
This pattern uses US terminology. The US and UK crochet terms are different, but they use the same terms to describe different stitches. Here is a simple conversion chart for anyone in the UK.

Instructions for the Velvet Twist Headband
NOTE: This headband is created flat and you don’t count the turning chain as a stitch. You turn your work at the end of each round.
There are three sizes for this headband. The first number you see is for the smallest size. The numbers in the brackets are for the second and third sizes.
Loosely chain 60 (64, 66).
Row 1: hdc into the second ch from the hook and into each chain across, turn your work. 59 (63, 65).
Row 2: ch1, hdcblo into the first st and into each st across, turn your work. 59 (63, 65).
Row 3-9, (10, 10): ch1, hdcblo into the first st and into each st across. 59 (63, 66).
Leave a long tail when you fasten off. Use this to sew the ends together to form the twist.
Making the Twist.
Lay the headband flat and fold the outer edges into the middle. (These pics are from another headband, but demonstrate the same technique.)
Now pinch the ends together.
This is how they will look before you begin to sew them together.
Using the long yarn tail you left when you finished off, and your yarn needle, sew through all the ends of the folded ends of the headband.
Fasten off and weave in the ends. Turn the headband right side out.
You now have a Velvet Twist Headband.
