The Simple Headband

Introducing the Simple Headband free pattern. It is a great beginner crochet pattern.  If you are new to crochet, then this is the pattern for you. I used Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick yarn and it makes such a super squishy and warm chunky headband.

This Simple Headband free pattern is so easy to follow and makes an accessory that is  perfect for autumn and winter days.

I wanted to make this modern  design as a simple pattern for beginners. Often as a beginner to crochet it is hard to find simple patterns that have the reward of an accessory you can wear with pride. The Simple Headband free pattern is one of those patterns. You don’t need to know more than the single crochet and half double crochet stitch to make this beauty.

Description of The Simple Headband.

The Simple Headband is made with super bulky weight yarn, (6) and I use Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick Yarn as it is a wool acrylic blend and the 20% wool in this yarn makes it super warm and so soft and easy to wear.

This easy Simple Headband is made using the single crochet and half double crochet stitch.  It is simple to make as it is made in the round so you have no seams to sew.

The Simple Headband

 

Finished Sizes:  

Child /Teen: 4” tall and 10” wide approximately.

Teen/Women’s Small: 4” tall and 10.5” wide.

Women’s Large: 4” tall and 11” wide

 

Supplies you will need:

Yarn: Category (6) Super Bulky Yarn. I used Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick. In the picture I used Barley and Spice for the headbands in the pictures

Hook:  N-9.00mm

Notions: Yarn needle and scissors.

Gauge: 7 hdc stitches x 5 rows of hdc = 4” x 4” square

Abbreviations (uses US conventions)

• Ch = chain

• st = stitch

• sc = single crochet

• hdc = half double crochet

This pattern uses US terminology. The US and UK crochet terms are different, but they use the same terms to describe different stitches. Here is a simple conversion chart for anyone in the UK.

 

US Single Crochet (sc) Half double crochet (hdc)

UK Double crochet (dc) Half Treble (htr)

 

Instructions for the Simple Headband.

NOTE: This headband is created in the round.  You do not turn your work at the end of each round.

There are three sizes for this headband. The first number you see if for the smallest size. The numbers in the brackets are for the second and third sizes.

Loosely chain 34 (36. 38).   Join with a slip stitch to the first ch to make a loop. Be careful not to twist the chain.  

Round 1: ch1, sc into the first ch and into each chain around, join to the top of the ch1 with a sl st.   34 (36, 38)

Round 2: ch1, sc into the first st and into each st around, join to the top of the ch1 with a sl st.   34 (36, 38)

Round 3: Ch 1, hdc into the first st and into each st around. Join to the top of the ch1 with a sl st. 34 (36, 38)

Round 4: Ch 1, hdc into the first st and into each st around. Join to the top of the ch1 with a sl st.  34 (36, 38)

Round 5: ch1, sc into the first st and into each st around, join to the top of the ch1 with a sl st.   34 (36, 38)

Round 6: ch1, sc into the first st and into each st around, join to the top of the ch1 with a sl st.   34 (36, 38)

Finish off and weave in the ends.

You now have a chunky Simple Headband.
