Free Nesting Baskets Crochet Pattern

Free Nesting Baskets Crochet Pattern

Introducing this Free Nesting Baskets Crochet Pattern for you. The Scrappy Nesting Basket Pattern is for three baskets that fit inside one another for easy storage.

Crochet Baskets are so soft and comforting and add a great feel to your home decor. I love to have a few around as they are great for organizing and storing all kinds of things that need a home.
These baskets serve a double purpose as not only are they a great addition to any space in your home, but they are also a great way to get rid of your stash. The are made in three sizes so that they can be stored nested inside one another when not in use. They are made with the worsted weight yarn and are a great way to use up your stash.
The important thing to note with this pattern is that these baskets are made with two strands of yarn being held together, so you are creating a double thickness that makes the basket sturdier. All you do is hold the tails of the two strands together as you create your slip stitch to start and work as if you only have a single strand, making sure you alway have both strands on the hook as you work.

Free Nesting Baskets Crochet Pattern

I used mainly the Half Double crochet stitch and an H, 5mm hook for this set of nesting baskets. Using the smaller hook with the double strand technique gives it the solid texture that is needed so the basket stands up and holds its shape.  These nesting baskets come in three sizes and look so beautiful when make with two different colours of yarn held together as you work.
You can make the Nesting Basket Pattern  with your choice of worsted weight yarn, either acrylic or cotton,  just look for the number (4) on the yarn label.

Inspiration for The Free Nesting Baskets Crochet Pattern

The inspiration for my Free Nesting Baskets Crochet Pattern was the need to create something useful and beautiful and also use up some of my small balls of scrap yarn in my yarn stash.  By working with two strands of yarn, and choosing colours that complement one another,  you can create a really beautiful look to these baskets. You can of course choose to use two matching strands of yarn but that is hard to do when using up your yarn stash.
I wanted this stash busting project to be a beginner friendly pattern that also had a great solid texture and special style. Let me know what you think?

Introducing the Scrappy Nesting Baskets Set

Free Nesting Baskets Crochet Pattern

You can make these 3 nesting baskets using up your scrap stash yarn. I used worsted weight (4) yarn or Aran for those in the UK. To make the baskets firm I used two strands held together to work these baskets and I love mixing up the colours to get this great artisan look. Such a beautiful addition to any space.

For those new to crochet, there are left and right handed videos on my Carroway Crochet YouTube channel that will demonstrate the single crochet and half double crochet stitch.

So here we go, good luck.

Supplies you will need:
Yarn: worsted weight (4) Yarn. I used up some of my scrap yarn and held two contrasting colours together to create this beautiful effect. You will be using two strands held together as you make this basket.
You can use any worsted weight/Aran yarn in your stash.
Hook: Size -H/8- 5.00 mm
Notions:  Scissors, tapestry needle.
Gauge: 11 hdc – 10 hdc rows = 4” (10 cm)
Special Stitch for this project.
For this basket you need to do the half double crochet back loop only stitch. (hdcblo). This helps create the bottom edge of the basket as you start to create the sides of the basket.
You will be working the half double crochet stitch, but it is done into the back loop of the stitch.
I created a video showing how to do the back loop only technique using the single crochet stitch and posted it onto youtube for you. I hope this helps you understand how to work into the back loop of the stitch. How to Do the Back Loop Only Stitch
