Hi everyone. I am so excited to share my Herringbone Twist Headband crochet pattern with you. This headband makes up easily and it is the perfect project for selling at craft fairs or for making as a gift. I used neutral colours from the Lions Brand Pound of Love yarn collection.

Description of the Herringbone Twist Headband Crochet Pattern.
The Herringbone Twist Headband crochet pattern is a for a headband that is crocheted flat and then sewn together in a special way to create the magical twist. You start with a chain that goes around your head, (this can be customized to fit) and work your rows of herringbone half double crochet. Once you fasten off you sew the ends together using the special twist technique. I have lots of pictures showing you how to do that.

I chose Lion Brand Pound of Love Yarn for this project in the colour Quartz

Lion Brand Pound of Love is such a user friendly yarn and just great for making these crochet headbands as well as garments. I used Quartz for this headband.
Lion Brand Pound of Love is a worsted weight yarn with a number (4) on the label.
You can however substitute any worsted weight (4) yarn you have available to make this headband.
Herringbone Twist Headband

This is an easy crochet pattern. This headband is made with a Worsted Weight (4) yarn, I used Lion Brand Pound of Love yarn. It comes in beautiful colours and is so easy to work with and make up to be a soft and cozy headband.
I wanted to make this modern twisted design as it is simple pattern for beginners and looks so stylish when it is finished. I have included pictures to show you how to fold the ends to create the twist in the headband. I chose the Herringbone Half Double Crochet for this pattern as it creates such a wonderful texture.
Finished Sizes:
Child /Teen: 4.5” tall and 20” circumference.
Teen/Women’s Small: 5” tall and 21” circumference.
Women’s Large: 5” tall and 22” circumference.
Supplies you will need:
Yarn: Category (4) Worsted Weight Yarn. I used Lion Brand Pound of Love yarn in Quartz. You can easily make this headband with one regular skein of worsted weight (4) yarn.
Hook: I/9 -5.50 mm
Notions: Yarn needle and scissors.
Gauge: 11 hdc stitches x 9 rows of hdc = 4” x 4” square
Abbreviations (uses US conventions)

Ch = chain
-
st = stitch
-
sc = single crochet
-
hdc = half double crochet
-
hhdc = herringbone half double crochet
Special stitch for this pattern.
Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC)
To make the HHDC stitch:
-
Yarn over, insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook)
-
Pull first loop straight through the second loop, (similar to a slip stitch)

Yarn over, pull through two remaining loops on hook.
That’s it! How easy is that, and what a fun texture it creates!
This pattern uses US terminology. The US and UK crochet terms are different, but they use the same terms to describe different stitches. Here is a simple conversion chart for anyone in the UK.

Instructions for the Herringbone Twist Headband
NOTE: This headband is created flat and you don’t count the turning chain as a stitch. You turn your work at the end of each row.
There are three sizes for this headband. The first number you see is for the smallest size. The numbers in the brackets are for the second and third sizes.
Loosely chain 59 (61, 63).
Row 1: hhdc into the second ch from the hook and into each chain across, turn your work. 58 (60, 62).
Row 2: ch1, hhdc into the first st and into each st across, turn your work. 58 (60, 62).
Row 3-10, (11, 11): ch1, hhdc into the first st and into each st across, turn your work. 58 (60, 62).
Leave a long tail when you fasten off. Use this to sew the ends together to form the twist.
Making the Twist.
Lay the headband flat and fold the outer edges into the middle.
Now pinch the ends together.
This is how they will look before you begin to sew them together.
Using a yarn needle and the long yarn tail you left when you finished off, sew through all the ends of the folded ends of the headband.
Fasten off and weave in the ends. Turn the headband right side out.
You now have a Herringbone Twist Headband.
