The Oh So Merry Cup Cozy
The Oh So Merry Cup Cozy keeps your hands and your hot beverage warm.
I love hot chocolate on a winter’s afternoon. Most people enjoy a warm beverage as it warms the heart as well as the body. Maybe you need one of these to put on your very own cup? They are so easy to pop into your bag or pocket to have ready when you need one. Just looking at the coffee cup cozy makes me feel the Christmas Spirit.
Description of my Oh So Merry Coffee Cup Cozy:
This Cup Cozy is one of the many cozies I have designed using the snowflake motif and I have called this collection of patterns the “Oh So Merry” collection.
This cup cozy is made with the simple half double crochet stitch so it is beginner friendly. It is made in the round so there are no seams to sew up.
The Oh So Merry Coffee Cup cozies make a great gift and they are so quick and easy to whip up. These cozies are popular right now as they make the perfect cup holders
Don’t forget to pin it for later so you don’t lose it.

Design Inspiration for my Oh So Merry Cup Cozy
I decided to do a Counting the Days to Christmas crochet event and this meant creating lots of new Christmas themed patterns. I know that Cup Cozies are very popular as they make up quickly and are wonderful, thoughtful gifts to give at Christmas.
I had decided on making a collection of cozies featuring my snowflake applique and this collection was called the Oh So Merry Collection. It seemed like a great idea to create an Oh So Merry cup cozy that you could add to your home decor and bring a little Christmas into the everyday. The cup cozy is made separately from the snowflake applique.

You will need worsted weight yarn (4) or Aran in the UK. This is a great project for using up your yarn stash. I used red for the body of the cozy and white for the snowflake.
Hooks: Size I/9 -5.5 mm
For the snowflake you will need a E/4 – 3.50 mm hook.
Notions: Tapestry needle and scissors.
Gauge: 12 hdc – 8 hdc rows = 4” (10 cm)
Abbreviations (uses US conventions)
- Ch = chain
- Sl st = slip stitch
- st = stitch
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
This pattern uses US terminology. The US and UK crochet terms are different, but they use the same terms to describe different stitches. Here is a simple conversion chart for anyone in the UK.

Size:
The finished coffee cup cozy when laid flat measures 4” tall and 4.5“wide approximately. This is so it will stretch and fit snugly when fitted on the beverage cup.
Instructions:
NOTE: This cozy is created in the round.
Chain 24, Join with a slip stitch to the first ch to make a loop. Be careful not to twist the chain.
Round 1: Ch 1, Hdc into the first ch and into each chain around (24 hdc) Join to the top of the ch1 with a sl st.
Round 2: Place a stitch marker (this could be as simple as a piece of contrasting yarn, or a paper clip) sc into the first st, hdc into the next st, hdc into each st until you reach the stitch marker.
Move the stitch marker up.
From now on you will be working hdc in a spiral and it will be a continuous round. Each time you reach the stitch marker you will move it up so you can count the rounds.
I made 7 rounds from the original stitch marker placement.
Next sc into the next st and sl st into the next st.
Fasten off and weave in your ends.
You now have the Body of the Coffee Cup Cozy.
The Snowflake Pattern.
Supplies:
Any worsted weight (4) weight yarn
Hook: E/4 – 3.50 mm
Notions: Yarn needle
Instructions:
Make a magic ring or chain 4 and sl st into first stitch to make a small circle.

Round 2: Sl st until the next ch4 sp, ch 1, sc in the ch4 sp, * (ch 4, sc, ch 6, sc, ch 4, sc) into the same ch4 sp, ch 3, sk next (dc, ch1, dc,) sc in the next 4ch sp* Repeat between * and * around to the end. After crocheting the last ch 3 of the sequence you finish by making a sl st into first st. (10 ch 4 loops / 5 ch 6 loops)
Fasten off. Leave a long. yarn tail to sew it on to your cup cozy. Weave in the end at the centre of your snowflake.
Place the snowflake onto the cup cozy and make sure it is centred where you want it.
Using your yarn tail and needle, sew the snowflake in place and weave in the ends.
