Bonding Squares: Free Pattern

Have you ever heard of Bonding Squares? They were new to me and I fell in love with the concept as soon as I heard about it. They are important in creating a bond between a new mother and her baby. One square stays with the mother and the other is placed near the baby. The squares are swapped over every 24 hours to share the scent of the mother and baby and help create natural bonding, even though they are physically separated due to the needs of the baby, often a preemie baby.
I first heard of them being used in the UK and hope they are introduced here in Canada soon. I was invited to take part in the Preemie Challenge being organized by Sunflower Cottage Crochet and this inspired me to come up with my own pattern for a set of bonding squares.

Introducing the “Sedge Stitch Bonding Square” Pattern by Carroway Crochet.

Have you ever heard of Bonding Squares?
I love the concept of using bonding squares with preemie babies and their moms. They are important in creating a bond between a new mother and her baby. One square stays with the mother and the other is placed near the baby. The squares are swapped over every 24 hours to share the scent of the mother and baby and help create natural bonding, even though they are physically separated due to the needs of the baby, often a preemie baby.
The Bonding Squares are used to connect mother and baby through their personal scent. A really great idea when a mum and baby are separated due to the infant needing special attention.

Description of my Bonding Squares Free Crochet Pattern:

The Bonding Square pattern is simple to make. You can make it with your choice of light weight yarn,  just look for the number (3) on the yarn label.
It is a beginner friendly pattern and with easy to follow instructions. It uses the sedge stitch for the body of the square,  and the single crochet stitch for the border.   I have clear written instructions for the sedge stitch but there are videos on youtube to help you learn the sedge stitch if needed. You are also more than welcome to contact me with any questions you have about the instructions.
