The Herringbone Poncho

The Herringbone Poncho is perfect for summer evenings when things begin to cool down.  It is also great for layering with your favourite tops and outfits.
This poncho has an elegant feel with the special texture created by the herringbone stitch.  Adding the fringes makes it especially on trend. It is great for those who love a little boho in their style.

I love modern crochet projects and the Herringbone Poncho made in this trend setting mustard is certain to attract attention.

Description of The Herringbone Poncho.

This poncho pattern is  great for beginners as there is no edging at the neck or bottom. I love the simplicity of the finish. Adding the fringe is also optional, but I just love fringes.
Ponchos are so on trend right now. You can make the Herringbone Poncho with your choice of worsted weight yarn, either acrylic, wool  or cotton, just look for the number (4) on the yarn label.
This poncho is perfect for any season as it is meant for layering.  To wear it in summer just pop it on over a t shirt, and in winter add it over a warm sweater for extra coziness.

Design Inspiration for The Herringbone Poncho

This poncho has an elegant feel with the special texture created by the herringbone stitch.
Once you master the herringbone double crochet stitch, which is just a variation of the double crochet stitch, it is beginner friendly.
It is a great project to make while watching your favourite movie and it is straightforward rectangles with no increasing or decreasing.
The pattern is written for Extra Small/Small, Medium/Large, XL/2XL and 3XL.
It is a simple construction made up of two rectangles.  This poncho pattern is also great for beginners as there is no edging at the neck or bottom. I love the simplicity of the finish. Adding the fringe is also optional.
There are detailed instruction with pictures to explain how to assemble your poncho.
I used Loops and Thread Impeccable yarn for this project. It is a wonderfully versatile yarn that is not just perfect for ponchos. You can use Impeccable yarn for making afghans, sweaters, hats and scarves as well.  I love this yarn for its soft feel and how it comes in so many colours. It is an easy to work with 100% acrylic worsted weight yarn.  It is an excellent yarn for many types of crochet projects.

The Fringe:

herringbone poncho

You will need two strands of yarn for each section of fringe. If you want a heavier fringe, or a longer fringe, you can adapt the pattern to suit your style.

For the fringe to be approx 5” long, cut strands of yarn that are 11” long as you will be folding them and lose some length in the knot.

Each fringe has two 11” strands of yarn, which are folded, (put the ends together and create the loop that can be threaded into the edge of the poncho and then knotted onto the garment.) This creates a four stranded fringe.

I use a crochet hook to pull the loops through the edge of the poncho and then thread the fringe through the loop and pull tight to create the knot.

Always pull the loop through from the same direction so the knots all match.

I hope you enjoy your new Herringbone Poncho.
