This St Patricks Day Shamrock Free Crochet Pattern has three leaves and if you have make flowers before you will find it very easy. Each leaf is made in the same way.

First of all you will make a loop, and there are two ways you can do this. then you will just do double crochets and a triple/treble crochet into the loop to form the leaves.

The shamrock consists of three leaves and a stem. It is so cute.

All About the Yarn for the St Patricks Day Shamrock Free Crochet Pattern.

I chose Red Heart Super Saver Yarn  for this project in the colour Paddy Green. ” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>

The Red Heart  Solid Colour yarn is  100% Acrylic and each regular skein is  198 g/7 oz in weight and  333 meters/364 yards in length.  It is a worsted weight (4) yarn. I love this yarn because it comes in so many colours. 

Red Heart Super Saver Yarn  is such a user friendly yarn and just great for making these crochet  shamrocks s as well as any other projects you choose to make for St Patric’s Day. The Paddy Green is such a great colour too for these Irish themed crochet projects. 

You can however substitute any worsted weight (4)  yarn you have available to make this shamrock.

Introducing the St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock

This is a quick and easy crochet pattern for a fun shamrock.  This shamrock is made with a Worsted Weight (4) yarn, I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn. It comes in beautiful colours, including the perfect green for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.  This yarn is so easy to work with and you can use up yarn from your stash as this is such a small project.

 

The St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock Pattern

Size:  2.5” tall approximately.

Note: You can make your shamrock larger by using thicker yarn and a bigger hook. If you want a smaller shamrock use a finer yarn and a smaller hook.

Supplies you will need:

Yarn: Category (4) Worsted Weight Yarn. I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn in green. Paddy Green.  You can easily make this shamrock with yarn from your stash of worsted weight (4) yarn.

Hook:  H/8 -5.00mm

Notions: Yarn needle and scissors.

Gauge: not important for this project

Abbreviations (uses US conventions)

• Ch = chain

• Sl st = slip stitch

• st = stitch

• sc = single crochet

• dc = double crochet

• tr = triple/treble crochet

This pattern uses US terminology. The US and UK crochet terms are different, but they use the same terms to describe different stitches. Here is a simple conversion chart for anyone in the UK.

US Single Crochet (sc) Double crochet (dc) Triple/Treble Crochet (tr)

UK Double crochet (dc) Treble (tr) Double Treble (dtr)

 

Instructions for the St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock.

You start this pattern by creating a loop. There are two ways you can do this. 

• Chain 4. Insert your hook into the first chain stitch and join with a slip stitch to create a small loop.

• Or you can start with a magic loop.

Note: There are three leaves on the shamrock.

Work into the centre of the loop

Row 1:  ch1, sc into the centre of the ring, ch 3, Make 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc into the centre of the ring.  Chain 3 and sl st  into the centre of the ring, sc into ring.

Row 2:  Ch 3, Make 1 dc, 1 tr, 1dc into the center of the ring.  Chain 3 and sl st  into the centre of the ring, sc into ring.

Row 3: Ch 3, Make 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc into the center of the ring.  Chain 3 and sl st into the centre of the ring, sc into ring.

Do not fasten off.

Now to Make the Stem:

Ch 5.  

Sl st into the 2^nd ch from the hook and into each of the next 3 chains.  Join with a sl st to the first sc you made for the first leaf.

Fasten off. Weave in the ends.

You now have a St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock. You can sew this onto any of your crochet projects to add a touch of the Irish for St Patricks. Day.
