Design Inspiration for my Christmas Cup Cozy.
I decided to do a Counting the Day s to Christmas crochet event and this meant creating lots of new Christmas themed patterns. I know that Cup Cozies are very popular as they make up quickly and are wonderful, thoughtful gifts to give at Christmas. Making a Christmas Tree applique seemed like a great way to create a seasonal cup cozy that would add to the home decor and bring a little Christmas into the everyday. The Christmas Cup Cozy is made separately from the tree applique and the star and trunk are embroidered on as the final touch. The embroidery is optional of course, you might simply prefer to just add the tree applique. It is up to you.

The finished iced coffee cup cozy when laid flat measures 4” tall and 4.5 “ wide. This is so it will stretch and fit snugly when fitted on the beverage cup.

NOTE: This cozy is created in the round.

Round 1: Ch 1, Hdc into the first ch and into every chain around (24 hdc) Join to the top of the ch1 with a sl st.
Round 2:Place a stitch marker (this could be as simple as a piece of contrasting yarn, or a paper clip) sc into the first st, hdc into the next st, hdc into each st until you reach the stitch marker.
Move the stitch market up.
From now on you will be working hdc in a spiral and it will be a continuous round.
I made 7 rounds from the stitch marker.
Next sc into the next st and sl st into the next st.
Fasten off and weave in your ends.

Attaching the Applique Tree and Embellishing.
Position your tree on the coffee cozy and sew it in place.
Adding a star and a trunk.
This is optional of course.
Using yellow yarn you can embroider a star. I did an upright cross and then a diagonal cross on the top. It is up to you how you want your star to look.
For the trunk, I used brown yarn from my stash. I embroidered some up and down stitches and then did some horizontal stitches over the up and down ones to finish off.
