This Chunky Mug Rug Free Crochet Pattern uses the alternating single crochet stitch. Mug Rugs are such a quick and easy crochet project and they add a bit of practical fun into your home. Mug Rugs are a great way to protect your table surfaces in your home. Make sure you use a washable yarn for your mug rugs.

Chunky Scrappy Mug Rug

Hi everyone. I am so excited to share my Chunky Scrappy Mug Rug free crochet pattern with you. This attractive mug rug is called the Chunky Scrappy Mug Rug because of the textured stitch and the cozy feel of the super bulky Bernat Blanket yarn it is made from.
You only need a small amount of yarn for this project so it is a great stash buster. You can also use any other super bulky yarn for this project such as Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick Yarn.
Te colours I chose are Misty Green, Malachite and Go Go Green. These were colours I had left over from making blankets.

Mug Rug Free Crochet Pattern

What is a Mug Rug?

Mug Rugs have recently become a very popular crochet project with makers as they work up so quickly and are so useful. Be careful because they can become addictive as they are su quick and easy to make and are perfect gifts any time of the year.

If you are new to mug rugs and wonder just what they are, they are exactly what the name describes,  they are rugs for your mugs. They are a slightly larger than the regular coasters we usually make for our cups.  Coasters are meant for your glasses and cups, a mug rug is slightly larger. This one is perfect for your coffee and hot chocolate.

Some Other Kitchen Projects You Can Make for Yourself.

If you enjoy making mug rugs and something useful for your home, I have a pattern for a lovely Super Simple Dish Cloth.  This can also double as a spa face cloth.  Something else you can make for your kitchen is my Practically Perfect Potholder. These fun patterns are great as they are a nice sized project that you can pick up and make quite quickly and they don’t need much yarn.

Are You A Visual Learner.

For those new to crochet, I have video tutorials on my Carroway Crochet YouTube Channel that will demonstrate how to crochet the single and double crochet stitches as well as other beginner crochet stitches. I have both left and right handed version available to help beginner crocheters.

Here is a video tutorial for the Boho Mug Rug made with worsted weight yarn. Right Handed.

And here it is for those who are left handed.

So here is the Chunky Scrappy Mug Rug pattern and I hope you use it to make lots of fabulous mug rugs for your self and those you love. Spread the crochet love

Chunky Scrappy Mug Rug

Introducing the “Chunky Scrappy Mug Rug” Pattern.

The Chunky Scrappy Mug Rug is a beginner friendly pattern and shows you how to do make this fun mug rug, with ‘easy to follow’ instructions. It is made with the alternating single crochet stitch which creates this lovely texture.
The Alternating Single Crochet stitch is easy to remember and made with one of the first stitches you will learn when you start to crochet, the single crochet stitch.
In this pattern you will simply be alternating the single crochet stitch with a single crochet into the back loop only stitch.
This mug rug only requires a small amount of yarn so it makes a great stash buster pattern.
I have another chunky mug rug pattern. The Chunky Winter Mug Rug, which is made using the blanket stitch and it can be found on my blog or in my etsy shop.

Single Crochet Back Loop Only SC BLO
There is a front loop and back loop for every stitch, which resembles the letter “V“.
The back loop is the part of the V that is furthest away from you when crocheting. The front loop is the part of the V that is closest to you when
To make a sc blo the stitch is made into the back loop of the stitch below. You do not go through both the loops (the ‘V’) of the previous stitch, just the one at the back.
I have a video tutorial for doing this stitch on my YouTube Channel.
