Beanies and hats are such a great crochet project as they don’t take to long to make and you end up with a useful accessory for yourself or to gift to someone or even donate to a charity.
This Slouchy Beanie  pattern is a great idea for someone new to crochet as it is beginner friendly You also might also enjoy my Chunky Beanie Crochet Pattern.  This beanie is really quick to whip up as it uses a large 15mm crochet hook and super bulky (6) weight yarn. Easy Crochet Leg Warmers Free Pattern

Introducing the Love My Leg Warmers, a great leg warmer pattern that is perfect for beginners.

This is a fun and stylish accessory fall and winter or any time of the year.  I used worsted weight (4) yarn, or Aran weight if you are in the UK.
These leg warmers can be made with a self-striping yarn as you can see in my pictures or you could use a solid in your favourite colourway.  However you choose to style them they will be super trendy.
You make these leg warmers with the double crochet stitch. The ribbing is made with alternating FPDC and BPDC. I have a video showing you how to do this.

Supplies you will need:

I used Caron Cinnamon Swirl Cakes in the colour Honey Bun. Any worsted weight  (4) yarn can be substituted for these leg warmers.

Here are the quantities you need for the Extra Small, Small, Medium and Large sizes.

Extra Small needs approximately 390 yards or 356 metres.
Small needs approximately 440 yards or 402 metres.

Large needs approximately 690 yards or 630 meters.

Hook: I -5.5mm hook for ribbing

         J-6mm hook for the body of the leg warmers

Notions: Tapestry needle and scissors.

Gauge: 10 DC and 6 rows = 4” (10 cm)

Abbreviations (uses US conventions)

ch = chain
st = stitch
dc = double crochet
sk = skip
FPDC = Front Post Double Crochet
BPDC = Back Post Double Crochet

This pattern uses US terminology. The US and UK crochet terms are different, but they use the same terms to describe different stitches. Here is a simple conversion chart for anyone in the UK.

US
 Double crochet (dc)
Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC)
Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC)

UK
Treble (tr)
Back Post Treble Crochet (BPtr)
Front Post Treble (FPtr)

Special Stitches used in the Love My Leg Warmers Pattern.
For the ribbing at the top and the bottom of the leg warmers you will alternate between the Front Post Double Crochet and Back Post Double Crochet.
If you watch the video tutorial for the leg warmers you can learn this technique easily.

FPDC or front post double crochet.
Yarn over, insert hook from the front side of the work to back and then to front again, around the post of the indicated stitch on the previous row; yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through two loops, (2 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through two loops, (1 loop on hook).
BPDC or back post double crochet.
Yarn over, insert hook from the back side of the work to front and to back again around the post of the indicated stitch on the previous row; yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through two loops (2 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through two loops (1 loop on hook)

A tip to remember when working this ribbing.
When you work 1 front post double crochet (FP DC) around the post of the double crochet in the row below, this stitch is raised on the surface of the fabric facing you. Always make sure that the post stitches are raised to the same side in each successive row or round. Keep an eye on the ribs and remember: If the stitch you’re working is raised to the front, work a front post stitch; if the stitch is raised to the back, work a back post stitch.

Instructions.
Note:  You may use more or less chains than the pattern calls for depending on the size of your calf or the calf of the person you are crocheting for. After you make your first chain, make sure it fits comfortably around the widest point of your calf.
The chain 2 at the beginning of the round does not counts as a double crochet stitch.
This pattern is written for sizes X Small, Small, Med and Large. The numbers seen in the instructions below are to show all the sizes. The first number in the chain of numbers is for size XS, the second number is for Small etc. This meant that for the large size you will chain 40.
Start with an I-5.5mm Hook
Ch 28 (30, 35, 40) and being careful not to twist the ch, join with a slst to the first ch.
Round 1: Ch 2. 1 dc into the first ch and into every ch around. Join with a slst to the top of the chain 2. 28 (30, 35, 40) stitches.

Ribbing

Note: Instructions for doing the ribbing section using the FPDC and BPDC are above, along with a link to a video tutorial.
Round 2: ch 2, *FPDC into DC in row below, BPDC into next DC in row below* repeat around, join with a sl st to top of Ch2.
Round 3: Ch 2, *FPDC into DC in row below, BPDC into next DC in row below* repeat around, join with a sl st to top of Ch2.
Change to the J 6mm hook for the body of the Leg Warmer.
Rounds 4 –21, (21, 23, 23)Ch2. dc into the first st and into every st around. Join with a slst to the top of the first dc. 28 (30, 35, 40) stitches.

NOTE: Customizing your Leg Warmers.

At this point if you feel you would like your leg warmer to be longer you can add a few rounds until it is to your liking. Also, if you feel they are longer than you would like you can do less rounds. Remember to make the same changes to your second leg warmer.
Do not change to the I hook as we want this ribbed section to fit the larger part of the calf.
There will be two rows of ribbing after you make your leg warmer as long as you want it.
Round 1: ch 2, *FPDC into DC in row below, BPDC into next DC in row below* repeat around, join with a sl st to top of Ch2.
Round 2: Ch 2, *FPDC into DC in row below, BPDC into next DC in row below* repeat around, join with a sl st to top of Ch2.
Fasten off and weave in your ends.
I hope you enjoy your Love My Leg Warmers
