Yarn for ths Herringbone French Press Cozy Crochet Pattern

I used a worsted weight yarn for this french press cozy and an H hook. I chose Loops and Threads Impeccable yarn as it really defines the herringbone stitch used to create this cozy. I think you will like the way it looks with the herringbone half double crochet stitch.

Here we go with the pattern. I am happy to answer any questions you may have.

The Herringbone French Press Cozy Pattern

Finished Cozy Size: 12 wide “(30cm) wide and 6.5’ (16cm) tall
This french press/cafetiere crocheted coffee cozy is for a regular Bodum; that is a 1 litre glass coffee-maker.

Make this a part of your morning routine and start your day off with a smile.
Keep your coffee warm so you can enjoy a second cup.

I have used 100% acrylic yarn, but any worsted weight yarn will work.

Supplies you will need:
Yarn: One skein of worsted weight (4) yarn. The cozies pictured here were made using Loops and Threads Impeccable Yarn.

Hook & Other Materials
  • US Size H /8 (5.00mm) hook
  • Yarn needle
  • 2 Buttons

Gauge: 13 sc – 14 rows = 4” (10 cm)

Abbreviations (uses US conventions)
  • Ch = chain
  • st = stitch
  • dc = Double crochet
  • hdc = Half Double crochet
  • sl st = Slip stitch

Special stitch. Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC)
To make the HHDC stitch:
  1. Yarn over, insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook)
  2. Pull first loop straight through the second (similar to a slip stitch)
  3. Yarn over, pull through two remaining loops on hook.
That’s it! How easy is that, and what a fun texture it creates!
This pattern uses US terminology. The US and UK crochet terms are different, but they use the same terms to describe different stitches. Here is a simple conversion chart for anyone in the UK.

US
Double crochet (dc)
Half double crochet (hdc)

UK
Treble (tr)
Half Treble crochet (htrc)

Instructions:
Ch 2 at start of each row does not count as a stitch
Chain 36
Row 1:  Hdc into second ch from the hook and in each ch across, turn – (35) hdc
Row 2: Ch 2, hhdc in each st across, turn.  – (35) hhdc
Row 3-15: Ch 2, hhdc in each st across, turn, – (35) hhdc
Row 16:  Ch 2, hdc in each st across. – (35) hdc
When you reach the end of Row 16, ch 10 and join into the beginning of the chain with a slip stitch to form a loop.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Rejoin yarn to the bottom of the same side and chain 10. Join to beginning chain using a slip stitch, this forms the second loop.

Fit around your French Press and position buttons so the cozy fits snugly when fastened with the loops.  Sew on buttons.
