Description of The Granny Stripe Summer Tank Top,

The Granny Stripe Summer Tank Top is made up of two identical rectangles that are seamed down each side. You will use double crochet stitches to create the granny stripe in clusters of three.
There are two straps made with simple chains. You can make the straps thicker by doing a single crochet stitch down each chain.

Don’t forget to pin it for later so you don’t lose it.

The great thing about this design is that you can make it shorter to create a crop top or longer if you wish, you can customize it to meet your needs.

Design Inspiration for The Granny Stripe Summer Tank Top

The inspiration for my Granny Stripe Summer Tank Top crochet pattern was the granny stripe stitch, which I love. I have made skirts using the granny stripe stitch as well as a skirt using granny squares, so making a top was a natural progression.
I wanted this to be a beginner friendly pattern that also had a great texture and added style by using the granny stripe stitch.
I used Caron Simply Soft in a pink for mine. My testers used a variety of worsted weight yarns, (4) and they all worked out perfectly.

Knit Happens

Construction:

Lay one piece down (the back) with the right side up. Make sure your bottom is at the bottom.

Lay the front piece down on top of it with the right side facing down. Once again check to make sure your bottom row is at the bottom.

Match up the sides and whip stitch them together making sure the shell clusters match up.

If you would like a slit in the bottom of each side of your top you can start your seam 3 rows up. This is up to you.

Adding the Straps:

Turn your garment right sides out.

Attach the yarn to the ch 3 loop on the front of your top.

Chain 27, ( 30, 30, 37, 42, 49)

Sl stitch into the ch 3 loop on the back of the top on the corresponding side..

Being careful not to twist your strap, sc down the chain until you reach the loop where you started and attach with a sl stitch or a sc and fasten off and weave in the ends.

Do the same for your other strap.

You can customize your strap length if any of the dimensions don’t work for you. Just ensure you do both straps exactly the same if you are customizing.
