So here we go, good luck.

Ethereal Baby Blanket Pattern.

Finished Size: The blanket is about 39″ by 39″ approx.

Supplies you will need:
Yarn:

3 skeins of Bernat Ethereal Stripes, super bulky (6).
Each skein is 220 yds/10.5 oz or 201 m/300g.  You will have yarn left over after your blanket is made.
If you choose to adapt the pattern and make it bigger, then you may need more yarn.
I used the Springtime colourway.

Notions: Scissors, tapestry needle.
Gauge: 6 HDC x 5 rows = 4.5”x4.5”

Abbreviations (uses US conventions)

  • Ch = chain
  • st = stitch
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • sc = single crochet
This pattern uses US terminology. The US and UK crochet terms are different, but they use the same terms to describe different stitches. Here is a simple conversion chart for anyone in the UK.
US
Half Double crochet (hdc)
Single Crochet (sc)
Double Crochet (dc)
UK
Half Treble crochet (htr)
Double Crochet (dc)
Treble Crochet (tr)

Instructions:

Chain 61 loosely.
Row 1:  HDC into the 2nd chain from the hook, hdc into each ch to the end. Turn work. (60 HDC)
Row 2:  CH 1. HDC into each st across. Turn work.
Rows 3-40: CH 1. HDC into each st across. Turn work.
Fasten off and weave in all the ends.

Blanket Border

There are two rounds to the border.
This single crochet border sets you up to make the Scallop Border, which is so pretty.
Start in the top corner ready to work down the side of the blanket.
Attach white yarn.
CH 1. Make 2 SC into the same space to form the first corner. Then begin working down the side of the blanket, making 1 SC into the end of the 1st row, then 1 SC into the end of each row as you work down the side of the blanket. Work 3 SCs into the corner.
Now working across the bottom of the blanket, work 1 SC into each stitch across the bottom of the blanket. Work 3 SCs into the corner.
Continue working around the blanket, working along the other side and the top as described above. Remember to always make 3 SCs into each corner.
Join with a slip stitch to the top of the ch1 starting chain when you are back where you began the border.
Fasten off and weave in the ends if you do not want to make the Scallop Border.

Instructions for the Scallop Border.

Working down the side of the blanket we will begin the border.
Ch1, make 1sc into the same st.
* skip 2 st, make 5dc into next stitch, skip 2 st, make 1sc into next stitch **
Repeat from * to ** to the end of the first side of the blanket,
Make 2 more sc into the same st to form the corner.
Now we are working across the top of the blanket.
* skip 2 st, make 5dc into next stitch, skip 2 st, make 1sc into next stitch **
Repeat from * to ** to the end of the top side of the blanket,
Make 2 more sc into the same st to form the corner.
Now we are working down the other side of the blanket.
* skip 2 st, make 5dc into next stitch, skip 2 st, make 1sc into next stitch **
Repeat from * to ** to the end of this side of the blanket,
Make 2 more sc into the same st to form the corner.
Now we are working across the bottom end of the blanket.
* skip 2 st, make 5dc into next stitch, skip 2 st, make 1sc into next stitch **
