Sara’s Baby Blanket Free Pattern

Sara’s Baby Blanket

Baby Blanket Free Pattern
Introducing the Sara’s Baby Blanket Free Pattern. This is  a beautiful beginner friendly baby blanket made with the blanket stitch and worsted weight yarn. I designed this baby blanket as a special gift for my niece Sara. She just had the most beautiful baby girl and I thought these colours would make a gentle blanket perfect for her cot or for her to lie on the floor when she wants to have a good kick and practice learning to roll over. She loves the blanket and I have had some great pics of baby with the blanket in her special chair.
I am so excited to share this crochet baby blanket free pattern with you here on my blog. The Sara’s Baby Blanket crochet pattern has a gorgeous texture and makes for a great gift.

Special Stitch for this Pattern.
The Blanket Stitch.
Here are the written instructions for how to do the Blanket Stitch.
This stitch uses multiples of 3.
Ch 15 for a sample swatch.
Row 1: DC into the third chain from the hook, make another DC into the same ch, skip two chains and into the next ch make a SC and 2DC, *Skip two chains and make a SC and 2DC into the next ch*. Repeat from * to * across to the last 3 chs, sk2 ch and do one SC and turn.
Row 2: Ch1, Make 2 DC into the base of the ch1 you just made. Skip over the 2DC st from the previous row, “SC, 2 DC” into the SC. You’ll always be looking for the SC to do your “SC, 2 DC” into. Repeat the pattern across ending the last stitch with one single crochet. (When you get to the end, you’ll have two stitches left, just skip one and SC into the last stitch). Turn work.

Instructions:
Note: If you want a bigger blanket remember to always increase by multiples of 3 so the pattern will work out.
Start with mint green.
Chain 120. Remember to chain loosely.
Row 1: In the third chain from the hook, make 2 dc stitches, skip two chains and into the next ch make a SC and 2DC *Skip two chains and make a SC and 2DC into the next ch*. Repeat from * to * across to the last 3 chs, sk2 ch and do one SC and turn.
Row 2: Chain 1, Make 2 DC into the base of the ch1 you just made.
Repeat Row 2 for the rest of the blanket! The more rows you do, the easier it gets to figure out where to work each of your “SC, 2DC
Here is the colour pattern I used:
(When you are switching colours, pull through with the new colour on your last single crochet at the end of the row when you have two loops on your hook.)

Rows 1-18 rows pastel green
*4 rows ivory white
2 rows pastel green
4 rows ivory white
10 rows pastel green *
Repeat from * to * two more times.
Then do:
4 rows ivory white
2 rows pastel green
4 rows ivory white
18 rows pastel green
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
