Description of The Granny Square Bucket Hat Pattern.

There are two sizes for this enormously popular Granny Square Bucket Hat pattern so it can be made to fit a teen/small adult, or a large adult head. The hat design is meant for it to have a loose fit, it is not a fitted hat like a beanie.

The  Granny Square Bucket Hat pattern uses five square to create your hat, four for the body and one for the top of your hat. After sewing the squares together you create the brim with a series of rounds added to the bottom. I made the brim of this bucket hat so it has a slight ruffle to it.

They look great in a solid colour or when you use just two contrasting colour, but my favourite Granny Square Bucket hat is one made with a rainbow of colours. So it is up to you how you decide to customize your Granny Square Bucket hat.

The Granny Square Bucket Hat

Pattern by Pam Carr 2021

granny square bucket hat pattern

Introducing the Granny Square Bucket Hat from Carroway Crochet. I fell in love with crochet Bucket Hats this spring and have been exploring making them in as many ways as I could.

This simple granny square version has proven very popular at the market where I sell my items.

It is made with five granny squares. Four make up the body of the hat and one that is slightly larger, is used for the top or crown of the hat.

The Granny Square Bucket Hat seen above uses just two colours, but you can customize your hat and have a multi coloured version and even add stripes of colour to your brim. The sky is the limit.

Granny Square Bucket Hat Pattern

Place the first two squares together with the wrong sides facing and starting in one corner, whip stitch (sew) them together along one side, matching the stitches.  Whip stitch all four of the granny squares together with wrong sides facing, matching the stitches as you go. These form the body of the bucket hat. They now form a circular head band.

The Crown.

Whip stitch the fifth square to the top edge of the body of the hat, making sure the right side is facing up.
