Description of The Easy Mug Cozy Free Crochet Pattern .

The Easy Mug Cozy is made with the simple single crochet stitch so it is super beginner friendly. There are so many colour combinations you could use to give each cozy you make a different feel and vibe. Make it with  a dramatic red yarn, or for a softer feel use gentle pinks and snowy white.
You can make several mug cozies for all the special people in your life.  This mug/cup cozy is a great gift and you can whip it up in an afternoon. Chic, cute and cosy.
This mug cozy crochet pattern is a beginner pattern using the single crochet stitch.
There is a loop made with a chain at one end and you will need a button to sew on so the cozy can be fitted onto your mug.

The Easy Mug Cozy Pattern

 

Supplies you will need:

Yarn: One skein of Worsted weight (4) You will need a small amount of worsted weight (4) yarn for this cozy.
Hook: size 5 mm, US – H/8 .

 Notions:

Tapestry needle and scissors.
A sewing needle and sewing thread.
A large button of your choice.
I know these can be hard to find. You can get a great selection from Amazon.
 

Gauge:

13sc – 13 sc rows = 4” (10 cm) square

 Size:

Finished Cozy Size: 10 inches not including the button loop“/ 25.5 cm. It is 3.5 inches, 9cm (approximately) tall,
 

Abbreviations (uses US terms)

  • Ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • st = stitch
 

This pattern uses US terminology. The US and UK crochet terms are different, but they use the same terms to describe different stitches. Here is a simple conversion chart for anyone in the UK.

single crochet (sc)
UK
Double crochet (dc)
 

Instructions:

 Please note that the Ch 1 worked as the turning chain does not count as a stitch. Always count at the end of each row to ensure you have ten stitches so the cozy is uniform with even edges.
You will be turning your work at the end of each row.
 Chain 11
Row 1: Single Crochet into the 2nd chain from the hook and single crochet to the end. Chain 1 and turn. (10 SC stitches)
Row 2:  SC into the first stitch and into each stitch across, Chain 1 and turn. (10 SC stitches)
Rows 3-30: SC into the first stitch and into each stitch across, Chain 1 and turn. (10 SC stitches)
Row 31: SC into the first stitch and into each stitch across, Chain 1 and turn. (10 SC stitches)
Row 32: SC into each of the next three stitches, then chain 10, skip 3 stitches and sc into the 4th stitch, sc into each of the next 3 stitches, ch1 and turn
 Round 18: SC into each of the next 3 st, sc into each of the ten chain stitches, sc into each of the last three stitches. (16 sc stitches}
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Attach your button to the centre of the cozy opposite the loop and use a sewing needle and thread to sew on your button.
(If you want a taller cozy just add extra chains for the foundation row and continue with the pattern as is.)
