Preemie Blanket Crochet Pattern: Precious Blanket

Preemie Blanket Crochet Pattern: Precious Preemie Blanket

A free crochet pattern for this preemie blanket

Preemie Blanket Crochet Pattern
It is time for another preemie baby blanket for the 2023 Preemie Chanllenge hosted by Helen over at Sunflower Cottage Crochet.

Premature babies, often referred to as ‘preemies,’ require extra care and attention due to their underdeveloped systems. This means that a crochet quick preemie blanket is always welcomed especially in the neonatal intensive care units (NICUs).

I am so excited to share this new Preemie baby blanket free crochet pattern with you. The Precious Preemie baby blanket is on my blog as a free crochet pattern. It is beginner friendly and you will be surprised how easy it is. I used a worsted weight (4) yarn for the preemie blanket.
I was inspired to make  this Precious Preemie Blanket after designing several home decor items using the blanket stitch.
Once you have the blanket stitch memorized it is something you can work on while watching your favourite show. Plus, this blanket stitch makes up into the softest blankets, just as its name suggests. These preemie blankets also make fabulous gifts.
This is an easy crochet project which will give you sense of accomplishment in an afternoon.  Having a quick and meaningful project to crochet with love is a beautiful thing.
The gorgeous texture of the Precious Preemie Blanket is created by repeating the blanket stitch made by working  (1 single crochet and 2  double crochet clusters) across each row. I have detailed instructions below and I also have a video demonstrating the blanket stitch.

About the Precious Preemie Blanket Pattern.

This Preemie Blanket uses the Blanket Stitch, which is a three-stitch repeat pattern using the single crochet and double crochet stitches. It is also a great stitch for crochet hand towels,  dishcloths as well as wash cloths. You can also use the blanket stitch for larger baby blankets as well as throw blankets.

Do You Love Making Baby Blanket.

Lately I have been making quite a few crochet projects that are for babies. Some of my favourite things to design are baby blankets. They are smaller than full size blankets and are so much quicker to make. They also make great gifts for new mothers.
If you too like to crochet baby blankets, you might like some of my other designs here on my blog. For instance you might like to check out the Bobble Preemie Blanket, or my  Oh So Soft Baby Blanket or Sara’s Baby Blanket

What skill level will I need for this crochet preemie blanket pattern?

This pattern is pretty beginner friendly.  As long as you have some basic crochet skills, you will be able to make this preemie blanket. The blanket stitch used in this pattern is made up of the single and the double crochet stitches. I have a step by step description of how to use these stitches to create the blanket stitch, so I hope you get yourself some beautiful, super soft yarn and get started on your own Precious Preemie Blanket.

Are you a visual learner?

Don’t forget: there’s a video tutorial that will walk you through how to make the blanket stitch as used in the Summer’s Day Hand Towel  It demonstrates the blanket stitch as you create your crochet hand towel.

And here is a left handed version for all the lefties out there.

Looking for some Fantastic Crochet Gifts Ideas!

The Precious Preemie Blanket makes a special baby shower gift, especially if you can pair it with a Summer’s Day Washcloth
This blanket is made with worsted weight yarn so it makes a thicker blanket that is usaully made for a preemie baby. It is like making a chunky blanket for this tiny newborn.  Who wouldn’t want a lovely soft handmade crochet blanket edged with this pretty scallop border.
